Weight Loss And Tummy Tuck Surgery

Handling a tummy tuck involves doing everything a plastic surgeon recommends following a successful abdominoplasty.  Immediately after a successful tummy tuck operation, patients who want to lose weight should be doing their best to avoid stressful situations, in both a physical (i.e. heavy lifting, exercising, sweating in any way, etc.) and mental (i.e. arguing with a spouse, dealing with complicated people at work, etc.) manner.  Patients are also urged to avoid any kinds of nicotine products, and especially cigarette smoke as the chemical in cigarettes and nicotine will exacerbate the tummy tuck scars and cause the skin cells to enter into necrosis (aka death of skin cells) which may require another costly plastic surgery procedure to correct.  The risks are very high in going against the physician's recommendation when trying to lose weight, and the reward is-a single cigarette?  Not much of a choice at all, really, when you consider the repercussions of one moment of weakness.

The increasing popularity of an abdominoplasty surgery in weight loss brings more risk of necrosis in those weight loss patients unaware of the risks associated with missing proper recovery guidelines.  Necrosis is a possibility even in the best case scenario, so it is more important to do everything possible to give a weight loss patient the best shot at moving past recovery mode with their ideal body shape protected.  Avoid the use of cigarettes and nicotine products (nicotine gum, patches, tobacco chew, etc.) during the recovery process.  This is something that many do not take seriously until they are facing additional plastic surgery procedures to correct damage  caused during an initial recovery from weight loss surgery.  Follow the advice of your doctor and take nothing for granted while in recovery mode from a weight loss operation and you'll do fine.

Many people hear "weight loss operations" and think they all can be compared to liposuction, or some other way to lose a large amount of weight fast.

This is not quite the same as with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), as the person who seeks an abdominoplasty surgery has already lost a great deal of weight-maybe simply from following a great diet or after a pregnancy.  The is mostly used as a means for eliminating the excess, saggy flesh that has lingered on the body's midsection after a pronounced weight loss, but the procedure itself is technically 'weight loss' from the fact that a tummy tuck removes the extra fat cells in and around the abdomen, or the 'belly area'.  All the extra skin and fat in the midsection will be stretched out when the abdominoplasty surgery is completed, and allowed to heal naturally into an ideal belly shape.  Aside from some scars that linger visibly for a few months after the procedure (of which most scarring after a tummy tuck weight loss procedure will not be visible above the bikini line intentionally as per the surgeon's design for patients) the weight loss surgery does exactly as advertised for receiving patients.
